Ended up going back to buy some items and class up twice, because that combat system will hopefully be less annoying if I can steamroll things.
The church looks mostly the same, except...
Priest: “Our creed sternly prohibits the making of profit on our services, but we happily accept donations.”

... there’s an exit now? And the warp flower calls it “Endmost Bethel” or something. So I expect Lore to show up at some point.
Sagi: “We need a ship to exit that way, Lia.”

1) Why are there cells in the sewers that is neither sanitary nor convenient.
2) NOT AGAIN
Old Man with a Bracelet, in a cell: “No, no. Don’t bother letting me out. Even if I did escape, I have no place to go.”

I do appreciate Sagi’s utter lack of patience for ladders. You’ve got wings, might as well use them.
Less appreciative of Guillo calling Geldoblame “prissy”, this had better not become a pattern...

THIS MINTAKA SECTION IS ANNOYINGLY LONG
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:34 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
There’s the dang save flower. Highlights time, starting with Guillo again comforting the idea that they’re actually Murderbot.
(Going with they because Guillo’s voice is the Typical Ominous Overlap Of High And Low Voices, and pronouns have yet to be used)
Guillo: “What better place to spend some quality time than the darkest, dankest, rankest ditch in town?”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:36 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
*adds more stuff on the extensive list of confusing things*
Unless they came up in an item description somewhere in EW, those places names are completely new.
Sagi: “There should be a skyliner leaving for Hassaleh soon.” Sagi: “Can you think of a better place to hide out than Sheratan?”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:40 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
There’s a blockade nearby, people ACTUALLY connect the dots between “looking for a young boy all in red” and our protagonist for once.
We beat up the soldier, obviously, and Guillo proceeds to, er............. distract the civilians?
Empire Soldier: “Also, we are searching for a key witness, a young man, about 15 years old and dressed in red.” Guillo, eyes glowing blue: “Come to think of it, you’ve got some tasty-looking meat on those bones.” Guillo: “In fact, your bones alone would make for quite a feast. Sagi, can I eat her?”

Speaking of murderous jerks, there’s a familiar house nearby with kids with familiar names.
The brainwashing doesn’t seem to be taking on Vallye yet, but we’ve seem that it eventually will. Surprising no one, Skeed’s already an ass.
Camilla: “Skeed, Vallye, someday you two will be in the position of guiding this Empire onward.” Vallye: “Aww, all these books say exactly the same thing. How boring.” Skeed: “I’m afraid I don’t have the luxury of idling about listlessly like you apparently do.” Housekeeper: “Caring about your kids’ education is one thing, but what she does to those brats is more like torture...”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:46 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
I’m sure this will not come up in the near future to clarify something EW was only hinting at no sir
Housekeeper: “Plus she’s totally hysterical when her husband’s around. All they ever do is argue.” Camilla: “Don’t tell me he’s off fraternizing with some YOUNG GIRL...”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:48 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
After running around, finding a broken pod blocking a door, going back, getting more Camilla Upper Class Douchebaggery and stealing oil with the Housekeeper’s blessing, we... get a sewer key and hoof it back down to open cells.
This has me suspecting this might be Quzman himself.
Old Man with a Bracelet: “My new wife, I mean. The bride from hell. Tell you the truth, she scares me.”

More game mechanics without tutorials or much explaining YAY. Will get back to that next time.
A hefty UI screen called Trade Deck Editor.

Surfacing that one for the people who were wondering about food in Mintaka. Apparently one answer is “good meat buried in questionable jell-o”.
Inspection text: “A gelatinous green sauce smothers this juicy, thick steak. It’s tough to believe this is food.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:53 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
THIS is super interesting if you’re into world-building, because it suggests the existence of several languages or at least several writing systems.
Sagi: “I can’t read the words on those labels at all. Wonder which island they’re from.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:56 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
We finally make it to the rooftops, and cause a thief to collapse into Camilla’s home.
So next time I’m heading back there because she somehow did not buy that excellent excuse. I want to see the resulting shenanigans.
Gonzo, Thief Extraordinaire, offscreen: “My department is currently offering citizens building inspections free of charge.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:59 PM · Apr 20, 2021 Permalink
The vibe in Mintaka is interesting. There are still trees, people are being somewhat irreverent towards soldiers. The signs are there - soldiers everywhere, Camilla, the WTFesque Imperial creed displayed in that house - but it feels early stage.
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:00 AM · Apr 21, 2021 Permalink
Mechanically, the theme is clearly dynamism. More treasure chests that move, the dash, enemies nearly always run after you, things just react more and expect you to do the same. Same philosophy as the combat really, so it’s consistent.
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:02 AM · Apr 21, 2021 Permalink
The combat still feels like a mess to me, because I like my combos tidy and I like having pauses between turns. With two class ups and Guillo playable it’s a lot more bearable, but I’m still not exactly smitten.
Anyhow, next time: more Mintaka!
