Getting this darn game setup on Dolphin, or “I need to make it through a battle until I get the camera out and make sure that the photo magnus doesn’t crash anything”. It’s a well-known problem with emulating BK! Probably some unusual render-to-texture.

No crashing, no hitching worth noting, the only obvious issue is minor clipping of characters in text but if UI rendering has taught me anything it’s that the problem might well be stock and not the emulator. Good enough!

Final setup: - Latest stable Dolphin beta (5.0-12716); - PAL ISO for EW; - Game properties: dual core and synchronize GPU thread off, speed up disc transfer rate on; - Config > Audio: LLE recompiler; - Graphics: DX11 backend, auto resolution, disable “XFB to texture only”.

Generally, this game is kinda niche, not heavily played or tested on emulator, so any option that says “causes glitches in a small number of games” is worth turning off if stuff misbehaves. That concludes the tech talk for now, might adjust once I hit known problem areas.

Anything with reflections is especially infamous, and there’s an area called “the labyrinth of mirrors” plus an entire city of polished brass, so.

As for the resolution: the non-combat backgrounds are prerendered but survive blurriness fine, and integer scaling makes the 3D bits markedly less cronchy. So we’ll roll with that!
