Alright, WHERE WERE WE.
Right, Azha’s back to Happy Music Times even if it’s crawling with soldiers, everyone is pissed, the kids are singing Bein’s praise and vowing to blow shit up, everything’s fine.
Errrr back to Mintaka I guess? We got some medical supplies to find somehow.

“Why do I sometimes start fights with the entire party poisoned”, and other questions this game has no interest in answering.
(Answers appreciated)

Right, the quest magnus descriptions actually explain effects some. Must be the Foul Air I’ve been keeping around see if it does anything: “Breathe it for too long and you might go crazy”.

(Yes it’s a mess don’t judge)
Why does this one have an arrow? Does the position in the list affect things? Did this make combats needlessly harder?
Quest Magnus menu, focused on Icy Jeers. “Jeers discourage fighters, make the time seem to crawl. They make it so the average blow decks your average Joe. But the jeers won’t last forever.”

Anyway apart from me being bad at videogames (when they don’t explain things and trip you up without saying)... We’ve rebuilt a house in Sedna and yeah that place is close to Mira alright.
Armoire: “H-Hey, wait! Eek, stop! Don’t open me. I don’t want you to see my mothballs!” Clock stuck at 3 p.m.: “Three o’clock, three o’clock! It’s always three o’clock! Snack time all the time!” Cactiss: “Name’s Cactiss. Folks say I can be a real thorn in their side!” Coffee: “Think you’re going to drink me? Give it up, kid. You’re way too young.”

Let’s go see Verus!
Isn’t it wonderful how this can be interpreted either as “Oh my, we’re the worst, this needs fixing” or “We need to shorten the leash”?
Verus: “Good work in Azha. The people of Mintaka can rest well tonight.” Verus: “I was neglectful. I’ll be sure to petition the Senate to reconsider labor conditions for the miners.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:24 PM · Jun 14, 2021 Permalink
I KNOW WRITERS WHO USE SUBTEXT AND THEY’RE ALL COWARDS
Sagi: “A human being—Bein, he turned into one of those umbras! What does that mean?” Verus: “...I don’t know. He might have been sick, or perhaps he was a monster all along.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:28 PM · Jun 14, 2021 Permalink
Surprise, our amnesty didn’t come through because Baelheit is a big meanie.
Guillo’s pissed, and does something BK uses a lot and which I love: pointing out that a terrible idea is terrible. This limits player yelling.
Verus: “I sent Geldoblame to appeal to the Senate, but Baelheit overrode the motion.” Guillo: “That’s not what you told us.” Verus: “Baelheit has requested you see him in person. Then you will be exonerated.” Guillo: “You’re asking him to climb the scaffold and shake the hangman’s hand.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:29 PM · Jun 14, 2021 Permalink
YEAH, SURE, he sent us to assassinate the Emperor but I’m sure the guy’s trustworthy and reasonable.
Verus: “I doubt even Baelheit would attempt anything rash.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:33 PM · Jun 14, 2021 Permalink
We are but a nagging voice in Sagi’s ear, so of course we’re going to see Baelheit.
(Godspeed to fan locs with that double-meaning of “mad”)
No, Milly didn’t get a single word in. Not doing great on female characters, BKO.
Sagi: “What do you think? I guess we have no choice...” and Spirit choice: “Let’s go see Baelheit” versus “It could be a trap”. Guillo, eyes blazing blue: “Sagi, are you mad?!” Sagi: “I’m mad, all right. Don’t you have anything to say to the guy who framed me?” Sagi: “You can bail me out if we get into trouble. Come on!”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:00 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Milly who is definitely not suspicious just HAPPENS to need to go see a friend. We can’t join, they’re just so chatty you see teehee.
Subtle.
(Ft. Very Rough character meshes)
Milly: “Hey, Sagi. I’m going to go drop in on a friend.” Milly: “No, we always end up chatting each other’s ears off—I’d rather go alone.” Guillo: “You don’t even have to come back!” Milly, poking her tongue out: “I heard that!”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:02 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Speaking of subtle, pour one out for Guillo...
Sagi: “You...! At the emperor’s residence! You’re the—“ Guillo: “The emperor’s killer.” Shanath: “Whatever do you mean? I’d prefer you keep such wild claims to yourself.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:04 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
And for Shanath, who’s going for a Full Villain Bingo.
Guillo: “Wild indeed! We saw your face plain as day.” Shanath: “That doesn’t make your words any less reckless. On the books, you are the one who murdered the emperor.” Shanath: “Which is why you went crying to Verus and then came here to make us take it all back. Am I wrong?”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:10 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
One thing BKO does that EW never did is have people move on-screen as you follow them. And because this is BK, here’s what happens if you talk to Shanath while he’s walking. This darn game.
Shanath: “We’d reach Baelheit’s office all the sooner, you know, if you’d be so kind as to NOT talk.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:12 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
We are of course absolutely not going there, and checking the other rooms first.
There’s a library! It’s full of flavor text! It has Greythorne Facts that are NOT disturbingly sexual!
Mysteries of the Greythorne: “These creatures are blessed with extraordinary levels of intelligence and power.” Mysteries of the Greythorne: “They are able to change their body size at will, and are unique in their love of salty water.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:15 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
It’s also got some history with obscured bits. Huh.
Imperial Analects: “Alfard’s 1st Emperor, Calbiranth: “My charge is to love my subjects.”” Imperial Analects: “Alfard’s —th Emperor, Olgan: “———gold———nationXXX.” “————of the——in————.”” Sagi: “The text has been struck out with black ink... It’s totally illegible.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:17 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Anyhow we go see Baelheit and... oh okay we’re good then. Suuuure?
Baelheit: “Very well. I’ll have the charge rescinded.” Sagi: “That was easy.” Baelheit: “You share your heart with another, if I’m not mistaken. I just wanted to make sure.” Baelheit: “...No matter, our business is done. You may go.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:19 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Let’s just go grab the treasure off to the si- GODDAMNIT BATEN KAITOS STOP BEING SELF-AWARE
Baelheit: “...What are you doing?” Baelheit: “Our business is concluded. You may leave.”

Bit of a callback, there.
Inspection text: “This machina is a rare example of sonic sniper riflery, employing sound waves to strike the target.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:22 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Did I mention Shanath’s going for the Full Villain Bingo? Writers, subtext, cowards, etc.
Shanath: “Is the verdict in? Well, I wouldn’t rest too easy.” Shanath: “I have no intention of following you, but accidents do happen—“ Shanath: “And I happen to think the next one might involve you. Hah hah hah...”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:24 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Milly’s back and nobody in this conversation is being honest
Sagi: “It went. I’m off the hook.” Milly: “You don’t sound that thrilled. What? Did he say something to you?” Sagi: “No, it’s nothing. Did you see your friend, Milly?” Milly: “Huh? Oh...yeah. She’s the picture of health, that girl.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:25 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
Doesn’t even bite on Guillo’s jab. She must have a lot on her mind.
Sagi: “Good, glad to hear it. I’ll have to meet your friends sometime, see what they’re like.” Guillo: “Birds of a feather, no doubt. Every unruly wench in the city must flock to this one.” Milly: “Hm? Oh...right.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 12:26 AM · Jun 15, 2021 Permalink
And of course after that we go straight back to Verus. I expect problems.
Before doing all that I did a couple magnus mixes, I’ve got some more to do and that means grinding and waiting, so we’ll see what what glacial pace the main story progresses.
Next time!
