Off into the Taintclouds we go!
Plan for today is mainly to get through the maze, as always at a snail’s pace.

This does not look like a comfy or safe way to travel, but nonetheless, we get to the bottom of the world map.
“Close enough”?
The party standing on the back of the White Dragon. World Map, the Dragon at the bottom, in the Taintclouds. Xelha: “I can feel the poison! The White Dragon won’t get any closer.” Great Mizuti: “This be close enough.”

Erm.
Great Mizuti: “Everyone be ready? Ready to jump?” Kalas: “You mean you want us to jump into that mess? Just like that?” Great Mizuti: “Correct.”

The party expresses Concerns, for some reason.
It’s not like the Great Mizuti has ever gotten lost, right?
Also back to our old series “SHUT UP KALAS” because of all the people who make a poor choice as friends...
Xelha: “Let’s just trust the Great Mizuti, and go for it!” Great Mizuti: “No worries, all of you! Just jump in and follow the Great Mizuti.” Great Mizuti: “There be no worry of getting lost. Just slightly. Not too much.” Kalas: “To think Gramps used to tell me to choose my friends wisely, now I know what he was talking about.”

Evidence that Mizuti never ever gets lost.

Mizuti’s voice uses the trick of layering different voices, resulting in something eerie and disturbing. You can hear the effect in the opening cutscene.
Otherwise, if you’re played Shadow of the Colossus, think higher-pitched Dormin.
Mizuti might have mild ego problems.
Person wearing a mask: “I be the Great Mizuti. What you be doing here?” Great Mizuti: “The Great Mizuti was headed for Mira, but took a wrong turn somewhere. Just a little wrong turn.” Kalas: “Do you...er... Would the Great Mizuti happen to know the way to Mira?” Great Mizuti: “The Great Mizuti couldn’t possible be disoriented. Most definitely not.”

NEVER. EVER.
Title card: “Labyrinth of Duhr” Kalas: “So... which way next, Great Mizuti?” Great Mizuti: “This trail be unfamiliar. The Great Mizuti took a wrong turn. Just a little wrong turn.”

The challenge of this place is that all the corridors look the same, and you’ll get different angles into the same room if you enter it from a different side. This is the same tile!
A room in the maze, showing paths to the left and right and a golden light in the sky. A room in the maze, showing a path to the left and one to the front, and a yellow sky.

Luckily GameFAQs has us covered (though this map is missing a chest). It helps to have a map and all that.

There is, however, a NPC (from the Quzman family) who gives us the trick: look at the sky to figure out which way you’re looking.
Not sure why we can even see stars through the Taintclouds...?
Young Man with a Bracelet: “I’m surprised to see someone in a place like this. Did you get lost? If so, look up at the sky.” Battuta: “To the north you can see stars. To the south you can see the moon. To the east you can see gold.” Battuta: “To the west is a jasper gem. Keep this in mind and you should be okay.”

Today’s graphics coder “wuh?” is Kalas’ sword glowing fullbright blue when he’s frozen. Odd.
Combat screen, showing Kalas frozen and turned to ice.

Mostly it’s a lot of fighting against weird monsters (which I’m not trying to avoid since Kalas came back some 200.000XP behind).
I also got the item required to finish up some combos so I got those out of the way.

Eventually we find the exit, and it’s back to the world map!
A room with a floor of solid pink-purple clouds. The world map of the ground, showing a large maze and a couple villages.

I’m also slowly accumulating the Class Up items for Class 5, and again it’s “vaguely thematic” for everyone versus “UNSUBTLE HINT AT MAJOR BACKSTORY POINT” for Lyude.
So darn weird this isn’t more consistent!
Gathering screen, focused on the Ancient Branch. “Required for Raising Kalas’ Class Level to 5. Ancient wood gives the impression of time itself being sealed within.” Gathering screen, focused on the Catfish Whiskers. “Required for raising Gibari’s Class Level to 5. The catfish’s alleged ability to predict earthquakes makes it a symbol for avoiding disasters.” Gathering screen, focused on the Platter of Parting. “Required for raising Lyude’s Class Level to 5. A ceremonial platter used to quietly toast the end of an immoral relationship.”

Either way, next time we go meet Mizuti’s people and it’s going to be mostly silly if memory serves me right.
(My memories of the events up to the Lava Caves are considerably clearer than those of the rest of the game)
