Round two of Cor Hydrae. I really hate the music in there, it’s got that annoying synth line which overstays its welcome after about thirty seconds?

One of the chests that gets unlocked after poking a light elsewhere is Kalas’ level 9 finisher. The other five are on the bosses.
Those are combo... 7? Meaning you need a chain of 6 before them, pretty darn hard to pull off, but generally suitably overdramatic and rewarding.
Textbox: “You’ve obtained a Magnus: Wind Guardian”

The monsters in there are mostly relatively dangerous palette-swaps of stuff we’ve seen before. The chimeras and winged warriors from the Illusory Fortress, yet another Fadroh-demon recolor, one more version of the creepy hand monsters.
Combat screen, with the party facing two large chimera-lions. Combat screen, with the party facing a tall demon with a dual-morning star and an eye for a mouth. Combat screen, with the party facing three winged warriors. Combat screen, with the party facing a creature shaped like a pair of open hands.

Each Sibling God fight looks like this: ominous suspiciously techy room, machines throwing sparks and dark clouds, god appears, battle ensues.
They’re not super tricky battles. -100% in one element, +100% in another, some annoying status effects, hit decently hard.
An ominous room with a raised platform crowned by strange machinery. A large ghostly figure with blue fire in its chest, standing on the platform. The party facing the dark figure.

Defeating each of them adds a VERY LOUD beam of light in the main room.
And it turns out we do get an explainer when we get back there after the first one.
The central room of Cor Hydrae, with three monsters bumbling around and a beam of red light in the center. Kalas, looking surprised: “That light... It wasn’t there when we first came, right?” Xelha: “It must be shimmering because we defeated that god...” Xelha: “Defeating all five gods must be the key, if we want to move on.”

Frankly the biggest danger in here is those creepy jerks. They hit hard, they’ve got a long combo that causes paralysis, they can boost attack AND they have a self-destruct move. It can spiral out of control fast.
The party facing two strange monsters with one eye, a long pointy tongue, a fleshy head, a single claw as their front legs and a pointy mace as their hind legs.

It’s not bad as final dungeons go, but since I have to loot eeeeeeverything and it’s quite random, it’s taking ages.
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:29 PM · Dec 20, 2020 Permalink
Huh, interesting. That Kalas finisher says “Wind Guardian” but the voice line is “Lord of the Wind”. Wonder what happened loc-wise for that discrepancy to ship...
Lia @liareplaysbk · 11:30 PM · Dec 20, 2020 Permalink
(“Lord of the Winds” is also the name of the Diadem End Magnus Guardian, meaning it’s not completely impossible that two lines in a spreadsheet got mangled somewhere. Localization generally has awful workflows, even today)

Or that. So weird!

@liareplaysbk It's a PAL thing. The text is Lord of the Wind in US.
Maybe a translator thought it was confusing with the boss "Lord of the Winds"?

CAN I PLEASE GET THE DAMN RARE SHOT OF GIBARI YOU JERK OF A RNG
Lia @liareplaysbk · 01:00 AM · Dec 21, 2020 Permalink
Well, the RNG is still not being nice, but all five Sibling Gods are taken care of.
The beams turn into a single larger beam, which will teleport us upstairs when we’re ready.
The central room of Cor Hydrae with five beams of light, in red, green, blue, white and dark. A single beam of light surrounded by blue spirals. Kalas: “Looks like we managed to break the seal.”
Lia @liareplaysbk · 01:02 AM · Dec 21, 2020 Permalink
Which we are not, because I’m still missing 3 random drops, the shampoo evolution from hell, and the rare shot of Gibari.
The very last Magnus is in a chest right before the “final” boss.
The Magnus Gathering screen, showing 1016/1022 and a couple missing armors.

Meanwhile, did I mention the numbers were going to get amusing? We broke 10k, woooooo!
I’d forgotten that going 1 to 9 yielded a better bonus than going 9 to 1.
Combat turn result, showing 2625 raw damage plus a final straight sunset for +255%, totaling 9319. Combat turn result, showing 2798 raw damage plus a final straight sunrise for +306%, totaling 11360.

Next time: more Cor Hydrae until the RNG cooperates.
