I like this alternate read!
And by definition an alternate interpretation is always some degree of valid so long as the text supports it, we can’t deduce authorial intent for sure from a finished work.

I know the dolls in Geldoblame's room are meant to play on the "predator" trope, which is disgusting, but I say, I choose to give it a different interpretation, which isn't the intended one, obviously. I don't like that he plays on the ambiguously gay predator, at all so... (1/?)

It’s what “death of the author” means, ish. Once the work is out there, it becomes the audience’s, not the author’s anymore.

This also means that obnoxious debates about what is “correct” are moot and should be instead in terms of what is supported or unsupported by the text.
It’s why I’m striving to frame my Hot Takes on here as “I don’t like this” or “I don’t think this works narratively”.
